Rules and Etiquette
The rules for training in the dojo are simple:
+ Leave your ego at the door.
+ Take care of everyone you train with.
+ Treat your uke with respect
+ Make their experience real, but safe.
+ Train with focus and commitment.
+ Enjoy it!
Jiu Jitsu Outside the Dojo
The rules for using jiu jitsu outside the dojo are also simple:
+ Don't!
+ Only use jiu jitsu if your life is seriously threatened.
+ If you need to defend yourself understand that your life is at risk.
+ We are fragile and fights are unpredictable.
+ In life you will accomplish more with a smile than you will with a fist.
Grading Entry Requirements
A student must:
+ Be a licensed member of the Brunei Darussalam Ju Jitsu Federation (BDJF).
+ Have trained in BDJF Ju Jitsu Syllabus for an appropriate time for the next grade.
+ Have a knowledge of the background of BDJF Jiu Jitsu and an understanding of its basic terminology and philosophy.
Dojo Etiquette
The following rules of dojo etiquette apply in particular to a grading situation, but should in fact apply to all training with discretion.
The student must:
+ Be properly attired with a clean white gi, with short clean finger / toe nails and clean hands and feet. No jewellery should be worn.
+ Respect the dojo, grading panel and fellow students.
+ Rei on entering the dojo, personal possessions should be placed discretely in a secure place so as not to clutter the dojo.
+ Wait at the edge of the mat to be recognised by the most senior grade present.
+ Rei to training partners and to the grading panel when appropriate, in particular before beginning any solo defence.
+ Remain focussed and alert throughout the grading, paying attention to posture and the environment within the dojo at all times. Refrain from unnecessary talking.
+ Never lose control by action or word nor abuse the skills they have been taught.
